With more than 7 billion consumers in the world, hot dogs are the most popular type of fast food. However, this kind of food is very dangerous for our general health – as it was found in a recent research, the hot dogs are responsible for even 4 types of cancer!

Hot dogs were originally introduced to the USA by the German immigrants in the 19th century. Since then, they’ve gained immense popularity and have become a fast food icon. Recently the WHO has released a report which showed that all types of processed foods like the red meat could cause numerous types of cancer. Hot dogs are made of a mixture of pork, chickenand beef. Factories also use the leftovers from pork chops and animal by-products like heads, fatty tissue, feetand skin. During the manufacturing process, all these ingredients are mixed together, along with additives such as corn syrup, nitrates, chemicals, and salt. Most of these additives have been confirmed to be cancer causing.

Numerous health institutions rank the hot dogs in the same category of the cancer-causing substances such as the cigarettes. Nitrates and nitrites are the most harmful additives that the hot dogs contain– when heated, they bind to amines and are creating nitrosamines -very dangerous for our body. Nitrosamines have been known to cause stomach, pancreatic, bladder and colon cancer.

The American Institute for Cancer Research indicates that people who are consuming only a single hot dog a day have 21 percent higher risk of colorectal cancer. Even the organic hot dogs contain nitrites, which is the reason why you should avoid this type of fast food.
