China is producing more than 200 tons of rice every year, and that makes it the largest rice producer in the world. However, according to the recent The Korean Times report, the Chinese rice is very dangerous sinceit’s made of plastic!
The report said that the Chinese producers sell artificial rice that is made of potato starch and plastic which is being steamed with rice aroma in the end. After additional investigation into the matter, it was discovered that this fake Chinese rice contains as much plastic as one little plastic bag! Luckily, the rice differs from the real rice in several ways, and by following these simple tips you can easily determine which one is fake:
The fire test
Light a few rice kernels and see if they burn – if they burn, the rice you just bought is fake.
The mortar and pestle test
Crush several grains of rice and observe – if the rice turns into a fine white powder, it meant that it’s organic. If it leaves a yellow stain in the mortar, it’s definitely plastic.
The mold test
Cook a handful of rice in a bit of water, then put it in some plastic container and leave it in a sunny spot for several days. Real, organic rice would be moldy in 2 days; the fake one will stay intact.
The water test
Pour one tablespoon of the rice in a glass of water – if the rice is organic, it should fall to the bottom of the glass.
In case you suspect that the rice you have bought is plastic, try these tips and you will easily detect its quality.
